Description:
Design for two-story high architectural GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) panels assembly. The panels are to wrap around the exterior of elevator cores at the lobby area.
Each panel is approximately 30 inch x 30 inch, weighs about 150 lbs and is individually supported to maintain 1/4" gap between panels.
After lengthy discussions with the contractor, we came up with unique aluminium clip system ("glued together" with high strength silicone adhesive) which is then fastened to metal studs to support each panel. This system allows panel adjustments in three directions during installations. Since the panels are quite thin, very shallow concrete inserts (3/4” deep) are used in panels to minimize potential of concrete cracking.
Mock-up installation is also performed to ensure the viability of the proposed supporting system and precise panel alignments.
